My love……Books

P:  Plain and simple, I love reading. As long as I can remember I have craved all kinds of books. As I sit here typing this and think back on my long love affair with books  I fondly remember: being a child and going to the library to pick out as many books as I could stuff into my small library bag. Yes, I did say that my love for books is much like a  love affair  and a sultry one at that. This is so in the way that I can get a new book and get so totally enthralled with it that many hours pass by and it feels like mere moments, such as time passes when you are with a new love.

So, last spring, when V and I decided that we were going to get pregnant in the summer I went slightly book crazy. I bought so many books to read about pregnancy, lesbian mother,  conception and many more. As soon as the books arrived I wanted to tear into the pages and learn all about what changes were going to be happening to my body and our life soon. However, many of the books were ones that I really wanted to wait to read the month before pregnancy and during my pregnancy. I wanted to read about the process while it was actually happening to us.  So I was very disaapointed but forced myself to wait. Then we decided to wait another year till we got pregnant……….ohhh, that meant I could not read all of these glorious books about lesbian motherhood for another year. It has been sooooo hard not to break into these books, but self control has prevailed. Well, for the most part. I have recently, as of Monday, started reading…

…..and it is SO good. I am having to pace myself though, it is still a good six months before we TTC. Any book suggestions that I can add to my pregnancy/motherhood library would be much appreciated.

  1. Sorry to say, but I hated both books out there for lesbian TTCers- both the one you’re currently reading, and the Rachel Pepper one. But there’s such a lack of resources out there that those are pretty much what you’re stuck with. Anyway, I hope you get some good tidbits out of them. You’re best resource by far are the TTC blogs out there, and your own intuition.

  2. Take the Brill book with a grain of salt – she can really stress you out!

I liked Taking Charge of your Fertility. I’m a crazy book reader too and started way early on the reading.

I honestly found the Brill book to be helpful before I got started. Yes, you have to take it with a grain of salt, but she has some good recommendations for getting your body in order, and I liked it for that reason. Still, she can be a little extremist at times!

I think it’s wonderful that you’re already getting ready. I started charting about three or four months before we started TTC, and it was so informative. I wish you all the best in your upcoming journey, and I look forward to following your blog.
